Laser Tattoo removal - What to expect?

Frosting

Frosting appears as a white or opaque layer over the treated tattoo, resembling cake frosting or a chalky residue. It may be more pronounced in earlier sessions when more ink is present and less noticeable in later sessions as ink fades.

On darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV-VI), frosting may appear less vivid due to melanin absorption, but redness or swelling may be more prominent.

Swelling

Swelling immediately after treatment is a sign that your body is reacting normally to the laser and starting the healing process. It’s usually mild and not a cause for worry because:

• It shows the laser is working to break down the tattoo ink.

• The swelling is temporary and typically fades within a few hours to 2–3 days.

• Your body is designed to handle this kind of minor inflammation, especially if you follow aftercare instructions.

Purpura (bruising)

Purpura is when you see small purple or red spots on your skin after a treatment.

• Small purple or red spots, about the size of a pinhead.

• Spots show up right after treatment or within a day.

• They usually fade in 7–14 days as your body heals.

• You might see more spots if you have sensitive skin or a large colourful tattoo.

People who have the following medical conditions are more susceptible to purpura: Bleeding or Clotting Issues, Vascular Conditions, Diabetes or Poor Healing, or if you are a smoker.

Pinpoint Bleeding

Pinpoint bleeding is when tiny drops of blood appear on the skin’s surface during or right after a treatment. These drops are very small, like the size of a pinhead

• Small red dots or slight oozing of blood in the treated area.

• Bleeding usually stops within a few minutes after treatment.

• You may notice a little crusting or scabbing over the spots as they heal, which is normal.

• Pinpoint bleeding is more likely with darker or older tattoos or if you have sensitive skin.

Cosmetic Tattoo Removal

You may experience one of the following during your removal process.

Redness & swelling: The treated area looks pink to red, sometimes slightly puffy.
White “frosting” effect (laser only): Right after the laser pulses hit the pigment, the skin may look whitish or frosted. This fades within minutes to an hour.
The brows may look darker at first since the pigment gets disturbed and comes closer to the surface.
The colour can change to more of a red undertone depending on the ink that was use in the cosmetic tattoo. Iron oxide in black ink may oxidize (like rust) when hit by the laser, turning red, orange, or yellowish.
The natural eyebrow hairs remain intact, though sometimes they look a bit singed right after laser and grow back normally.
